The Warna-Warni Botanic: Festival Fabrikasi concluded successfully, marking a significant milestone in promoting sustainability, cultural exchange, and education. The 4-day event, held at Taman Rimba Bukit Lagong from December 5 to December 8, 2024, attracted over 1,100 attendees, including students, educators, and members of the public.

Graced by Great National Icon

Her Majesty, The Queen of Pahang, Tengku Ampuan Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, officially opened the festival, highlighting her commitment to supporting local artisans and sustainable practices. Accompanying Her Majesty were Deputy Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, Dato Sri Noraini Ahmad, and the Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Datuk Seri Isham Bin Ishak. Their presence emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in preserving Malaysia’s cultural heritage and promoting eco-friendly initiatives.

Craftsmanship and Sustainability on Display

The festival showcased over 20 booths, featuring products made using natural dye and eco-print techniques. Local artisans demonstrated their creative processes and introduced attendees to eco-friendly alternatives in fashion and home décor. These booths not only highlighted artistic creativity but also promoted environmental awareness among participants.

Visitors had the opportunity to explore handcrafted items dyed with plant-based colors like pink from durian shells and brown from coconut husks. The booths became a hub of inspiration, showing that sustainability can coexist with beauty and quality.

Indigenous Knowledge and Hands-On Learning

More than 20 Orang Asli representatives from Pahang, Perak, and Selangor played a central role in the festival. As workshop leaders, they shared their invaluable knowledge of natural resources and eco-friendly practices. Participants learned eco-printing techniques and traditional skills, bridging modern education with indigenous wisdom.

The involvement of the Orang Asli community emphasized their role as guardians of nature and stewards of sustainable living. Their teaching provided visitors with hands-on experience and a deeper appreciation for Malaysia’s rich biodiversity.

Educational Impact: Students and Schools Participated Enthusiastically

The festival received overwhelming participation from thousands of students across 25 schools, including:

  • SJKC Kuen Cheng 2, SJKC Chung Hua Klang, SMK Pusat Bandar Puchong, Catholic High School (SMJK), Tzu Chi International School, and more.

Teachers, parents, and students praised the festival for its educational value. Workshops on natural dyeing, eco-printing, and environmental awareness provided students with a unique, hands-on learning experience outside the classroom. Teachers expressed that the activities not only nurtured creativity but also instilled a sense of responsibility toward the environment.
