Plastic to Fabric Program: Transforming Waste into Sustainable Fashion

PSJKM, in partnership with Epal Handicraft Training Centre, proudly presents the Plastic to Fabric Upcycle Program. This eco-initiative, running from November to December 2024, offers the community a way to reduce plastic waste while learning sustainable skills. Together, we aim to recycle 1,000 kg of plastic bags, transforming them into fabric for everyday items like tote bags, backpacks, and pouches. This program also rewards participants with learning points that can be redeemed for courses and workshops, empowering them with valuable handcrafting skills and a more sustainable lifestyle.

Program Details and How to Participate

  1. Prepare Plastic Bags: Clean, fold, and cut your plastic bags as per our instructions in the informational video.
  2. Drop-off Location: Bring your prepared plastic bags to any Epal Handicraft Training Centre branch.
  3. Earn Learning Points: For every 200 grams of plastic donated, you earn 5 learning points. Redeem these points for courses at Epal Handicraft Training Centre to learn various crafting and sewing skills.

Note: Points are awarded only in increments of 200 grams. For instance, 220 grams of plastic will earn 5 points, but 400 grams will earn 10.

Environmental Impact

The Plastic Upcycle Program addresses plastic pollution by recycling waste into new, functional items. Each 200 grams of plastic collected keeps harmful material out of landfills and repurposes it into eco-friendly products. Through this program, we emphasize the importance of sustainable choices in daily life. By turning waste into reusable fabric, we encourage the community to adopt sustainable habits and rethink their plastic use.

Skills and Community Empowerment

Participants who donate plastic bags earn learning points, redeemable for workshops that teach skills in handcrafting and upcycling. These skills promote sustainable living and may help participants create a source of income. The program thus empowers the community not only to protect the environment but also to gain valuable skills. Join us to contribute to a cleaner future while gaining practical, income-generating knowledge.

Promoting Sustainable Fashion

Upcycle plastic waste into fabric promotes sustainable fashion, showing that everyday waste can turn into stylish, functional items. Through this program, we encourage a shift towards responsible, eco-friendly products. This initiative can inspire other communities to adopt similar models, making sustainable fashion accessible and impactful on a larger scale.
