Empowering Futures: PSJKM and JKM’s Empowerment Program for Youth Independence
In August 2024, PSJKM proudly partnered with the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) under the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development to conduct a transformative empowerment program. This initiative focused on helping 15 children from three JKM agencies, all aged 17, who were approaching the end of their care under JKM.
A Vital Step Toward Independence
Held from 14 August to 21 August 2024, the program took place at PSJKM’s training center in Puchong. Recognizing that these youths would soon need to stand on their own, the program provided them with essential skills to generate a sustainable income and lead independent lives.
The week-long course emphasized sewing, eco-printing, and natural dyeing techniques, fostering both technical skills and entrepreneurial confidence. These skills equip participants to explore sustainable business opportunities, giving them a pathway to financial independence as they transition out of care.
Ongoing Support for Lasting Impact
PSJKM remains committed to the future of these youths beyond the program. To ensure lasting success, we have initiated a six-month supervision plan. This plan includes:
- Upskilling workshops at their respective locations, providing ongoing learning and refinement of their skills.
- Opportunities for hands-on experience, including participation in events such as Warna-Warni Botanic: Festival Fabrikasi and similar showcases.
These efforts aim to build a robust foundation for participants, preparing them for real-world challenges and opportunities.

This program was made possible through the support and encouragement of the Deputy Minister and Secretary General of the Ministry of Women, Family, and Community Development. Their visit to PSJKM earlier this year highlighted the potential of our empowerment programs in transforming lives.
