KKDW and PSJKM Empower Indigenous Women Initiative

From November 21 to 26, 2024, Persatuan Seni Jahitan Kreatif Malaysia (PSJKM), with support from the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (Kementerian Kemajuan Desa dan Wilayah) and its subsidiary agency, FELCRA Training and Consultancy Sdn Bhd, conducted an intensive course for 17 indigenous women from Tasik Chini and Bukit Lagong. This initiative aimed to empower these women, who often serve as primary caregivers, by equipping them with valuable skills to enhance their household income.

Addressing Economic Challenges

Traditionally, indigenous communities rely on harvesting, hunting, and fishing as their main sources of income. However, due to development and environmental changes, these activities have declined significantly, leading to insufficient household earnings. Recognizing this challenge, PSJKM selected 17 dedicated women committed to transforming their lives and contributing to their families’ financial stability.

Comprehensive Skill Development

The program provided participants with training in sewing and dyeing techniques. Additionally, each woman received essential materials to start their own ventures. This comprehensive approach ensured that participants could immediately apply their new skills to generate income, fostering both personal and community empowerment.
